Provides direct mental health to student clientele in the form of individual, group, couples counseling, consultation, and case management. Provides crisis intervention, consultation, outreach, and programming. Supervision of interns or practicum students is possible.
Master’s degree in a mental health-related field and 3 years of experience working collaboratively with multidisciplinary staff in a mental health center or substance abuse service. Experience working in a college counseling center is preferred. Excellent oral, written and computer skills are required. Employee must be appropriately certified or licensed (ex. Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Psychologist) within one year of employment by the state of South Carolina mental health professional organization regulating professional practice for their specialty. This will usually be the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation. Familiarity with cased note writing/legal documentation requirements for mental health clients. Experience with online counseling technology is preferred.

This position uses three areas as the basis of skill/knowledge: 1) assessment of individual psychopathology and accurate differential diagnosis; 2) Individual and group psychotherapy and counseling for adults, families, and adolescents; 3) Public education/teaching/programmatic skills in an area of counseling and development (e.g., women’s issues, eating disorders, alcohol/substance abuse, yoga therapy, etc.).
Some occasional evening and weekend duties related to after hours crisis consultation are required. Employee is expected to participate in professional development/continuing education sufficient to maintain licenses, actively participate in professional organizations and conduct professional activities (i.e., research, presentations and publication).
This is a permanent state position that is scheduled to work 11 months a year.
