In 2019, Notre Dame launched iNDustry Labs (iNDL), the University's platform for collaboration with local industry. iNDL's mission has two dimensions: to advance the productivity, resilience and skills in the regional economy, while also enhancing the depth of applied research and learning opportunities for University faculty, staff, and students. In doing so, iNDL is an embodiment of the University's Mission, seeking to be a force for good through its tangible application of expertise, applied learning programs.
At the heart of iNDL are the Engineers in Residence (ENIR) who serve as advisors, translators and bridge-builders, responsible for leading technical consulting projects with local industry partners, articulating industry challenges, and identifying available resources at the University and throughout the LIFT Network for collaborative solutions to drive regional industry advancement.
The ENIRs are individuals with experience in advanced industries who can draw upon both deep technical and business expertise. As a critical member of the iNDustry Labs team, the ENIR will also contribute to the design and ongoing development of the services that comprise the iNDustry Labs platform.
The ENIR leads a project team of 2-3 enFocus Fellows in addition to graduate and undergraduate student employees and interns. The ENIR reports to the Managing Director, iNDustry Labs, and works in close collaboration with the Faculty Director, other ENIRs, and the Program Manager of iNDustry Labs. This position is on a term-basis, with an initial term of 2 years with the possibility of renewal.
ENIRs will also actively contribute to the collaborative, results-driven, and intellectually curious culture of the iNDustry Labs team and demonstrate a deep commitment to the University of Notre Dame's mission and core values of integrity, teamwork, and accountability. Minimum Qualifications: A Masters degree or Bachelors degree with advanced certification beyond a bachelors degree is required.
A degree in engineering is preferred, but individuals with other degrees and relevant expertise in advanced industries are encouraged to apply. Relevant experience includes data analytics and IT, cybersecurity, advanced manufacturing, finance, and strategy.
Seasoned leadership skills and ability to collaborate, influence and command the respect and confidence of senior leaders throughout the University and beyond the University (e.g. senior government officials, c-suite business leaders) required.
Preferred Qualifications: Preference for candidates with strong local relationships and expertise in applied analytics, IT, and advanced engineering fields and familiarity with emerging technologies and techniques. Adept in building coalitions with industry and civic stakeholders. Ingenuity, creativity, innovation, emotional intelligence are fundamental to the success of the role.
