The Assistant/Associate Dean plays a critical role in cultivating an inclusive and welcoming campus community by providing developmental advising and support services to Brown University undergraduate and graduate students. The Assistant/Associate Dean manages individual student cases that include medical leaves and return clearances, reduced course loads, students in crisis, missing students, and other student emergencies. The Assistant/Associate Dean may also serve as a point person on specific projects and/or in managing specific office processes and protocols. The Assistant/Associate Dean serves in the Administrator on Call (AOC) and Dean of the Day rotations, offering support to students in crisis as well as coordinating with other offices to ensure appropriate resources are deployed. The Assistant/Associate Dean actively promotes diversity and inclusion through critical conversations, compassionate care, and strategic outreach efforts to various student populations (e.g., first-generation, undocumented and DACA students, students of color, Native and indigenous students, international students, LGBTQ students, students with disabilities, students from faith communities).

For Associate Dean of Student Support Services (Grade 12): Minimum 7-10 years or relevant experience at an educational institution required. Residential college or university preferred.
For Assistant Dean of Student Support Services (Grade 11): Minimum 5-7 years or relevant experience at an educational institution required. Residential college or university preferred.
Masterâ™s degree in Student Affairs, Education, Social Work, or related field required.
Ability to work collaboratively with students, colleagues, and families to advise and support undergraduate, graduate, and medical students through difficult and complicated situations.
Experience in managing crises effectively and collaboratively.
Demonstrated commitment and success working in a multicultural environment with a critical understanding of social justice issues in both student and workplace settings required. Skills, knowledge and experience specifically focused on the needs of students of color, students from indigenous communities, LGBTQ students, international students, students from diverse faith communities, students with disabilities, undocumented students, and/or first generation college students is preferred.
Sound judgement and the ability to make difficult and timely decisions with integrity.
Excellent written and oral communications skills.
Strong teamwork and conflict resolution skills.
Ability to utilize technology and institutional databases in the documentation of records and support of students.
Flexibility to evolve with a dynamic student affairs environment.
Multilingual skills preferred.
