Experience providing clinical counseling services in a University setting, or with a young adult population. Experience working with varying levels of clinical trainees. Experience working with a diverse client population.
Iowa State Universityâs Student Counseling Service (SCS) seeks Clinical Therapist candidates to provide direct client care to a dynamic and diverse student population. The Clinical Therapist provides psychological services to assist students in attaining their educational, academic, and personal wellness goals. These services include individual assessment and counseling; hospitalization follow-up and service determinations; case management; crisis service system support; group counseling; and psycho-educational and outreach programming to students, staff, faculty, administrators, and parents/families. Candidates will also be expected to work closely with the varying level of student trainees in the counseling center.
The successful candidate will be innovative and creative; function as a team player; and be able to assess, manage, and ensure high quality mental health counseling. The successful candidate will be licensed to provide clinical services (i.e. clinical social worker, mental health counselor, marriage and family therapist), and within 6 months of start date must be licensed within the State of Iowa.
There are two positions available, with one being embedded at Veterinary Medicine.
This position serves at the pleasure of university administration and is exempt from certain P&S policies.
Example of Duties â¢ Provides individual, couples, career, and group psychotherapy to students. â¢ Assesses client needs through interviews, tests, and observations. â¢ Conducts psychological, substance abuse, and eating disorder assessments. â¢ Attends to and evaluates the clientâs report of thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. â¢ Provides treatment through psychotherapy and other resources. â¢ Writes notes and reports on progress. â¢ Conducts intake interviews of clients. â¢ Assesses client needs and make appropriate referrals to other professionals and community resources. â¢ Provides intervention during client crisis. â¢ Coordinates a program area as assigned. â¢ Researches and develops educational and prevention presentations.
Level Guidelines â¢ Senior-level position possessing high-level professional and/or technical skills working independently under minimal supervision to support ISUâs mission and department or work unit goals â¢ Applies senior-level professional knowledge and expertise to work requiring greater latitude â¢ Solves moderately complex problems and regularly exercises judgment to determine appropriate action â¢ Regularly exercises judgment to resolve problems and determine appropriate action on a broad set of issue and problems. May provide recommendations regarding problems/issues outside the bounds of defined procedures and practices â¢ Responds to complicated inquiries, provides training, and provides direction to lower-level staff â¢ May provide supervision for one to two other staff (i.e., leads a small work team) â¢ May lead projects for which well-defined practices and procedures may not exist â¢ Provides guidance to students
