The prospective candidate will be responsible for leading transactions from beginning to close, including business development, team leadership and deal execution. The team of Vice Presidents, Associates, and Analysts you lead will be active in preparing presentation materials to communicate ideas and findings to prospects and, preparing compelling evaluation materials used in sell-side M&A engagements, preparing market and strategic adjacency analyses used in buy-side engagements, and supporting due diligence efforts related to client engagements.
The ideal candidate must be intentional and strategic in maintaining and building strong relationships, hard-working, intelligent, and resourceful, as demonstrated by a strong background and meaningful experience in mergers & acquisitions. The candidate must have strong communication and quantitative skills, as well as superior client relationship skills. The successful candidate must also be able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, and effectively lead and manage others. Prior experience in investment banking or corporate development is required.
As a Managing Director at Cherry Tree, you must be able to provide strategic viewpoints and advice to the senior management and owners of client companies. A history of developing new business and persistence in the pursuit of potential new clients is essential to strong business development and successful fee generation for the firm. This position requires a securities license (which we can facilitate) and is eligible for transaction bonuses upon closings.
Act as a trusted advisor to clients enabling them to achieve their long-term goals
Own the transaction process from start to finish as the Managing Director of the deal team, including the quality and promptness of client deliverables
Communicate financial information and strategic issues in a clear, concise, and relevant manner to assist and guide executives in corporate finance transactions
Participate in all firm-building activities, including recruiting, training and the development of firm strategy, processes and intellectual capital
Build and maintain referral and client relationships
Develop, implement, and maintain outbound marketing programs for developing potential clients
Maintain an active calling and contact program for networking with lead sources: attorneys, accountants, etc.
Call and/or meet with potential engagement targets
Negotiate with counterparties on specific issues and deal terms
Provide direction and training when necessary, to the Vice Presidents, Associates, and Analysts
Direct the development of financial models and analyses
Preference for at least seven years of experience in M&A, Private Equity, Venture Capital, or Corporate Development
Strong academic background from a respected four-year university
Preferred candidates will have an MBA with demonstrated outstanding academic achievement
Highly motivated individual with a strong work ethic
Ability to prioritize, multi-task and work on multiple engagements simultaneously
Solid communicator, in writing and speaking
Strengths in client service and client management
Experience leading, managing, and developing others, and comfortable working on a team
A track record for managing multiple teams on multiple projects and to complete high-quality deliverables within a given timeframe
A demonstrated ability to thoroughly understand financial statements, create financial models, implement valuation techniques and assist the firm in advancing its M&A advisory endeavors
Advanced skills with Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
Series 79 and 63 licenses (can be facilitated by Cherry Tree if not in place)
