About the Opportunity: Working under the direction of the Director of Undergraduate Advising, the Coordinator of Undergraduate Student Engagement Programs is responsible for developing, coordinating and implementing programs to more fully engage CSSH undergraduates in the life and culture of the college. In addition, the Coordinator will work with student groups to brainstorm ways in which to develop more robust opportunities for leadership in the College. The Coordinator will also develop, implement and coordinate programs targeted to specific cohorts of CSSH students, with a goal of encouraging a higher level of engagement in the College and ultimately retention to graduation. This position is responsible for maintaining strong and productive interpersonal relationships with student groups, academic advisors, faculty and co-op coordinators to fully take advantage of ways in which to engage students in all areas of the college. A key piece of the Coordinator's role is to proactively develop the CSSH Student Advisory Council, the peer mentors and the UG TAs into strong student leadership groups within the College.
Responsibilities: Coordinate and work closely with CSSH student leadership groups, including: Student Advisory Council, Peer Mentors, and TAs for the freshman seminar (25%)
Development of programs to promote retention through student engagement of CSSH cohorts (30%)
Outreach, messaging and communications (10%)
Manage the college's summer and other orientation programs for new students, including freshmen, transfers, NUin, and other pipeline program students (15%)
Maintain a small advising load in order to maintain contact with students and keep up to date with issues related to advising and ideas about how to engage students in the college, as well as to draw from students CSSH student groups (20%)
Qualifications: Master's degree required with a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in working with cohorts of student leaders in a higher education institution (e.g. peer mentors, student council members, etc.). Very strong project management and organizational skills required. Ability to juggle many projects and deadlines simultaneously is a necessity, as are excellent writing and communications skills and an ability to work collaboratively while supporting multiple internal clients (e.g. faculty members, staff, students). The candidate must also have the ability to interpret data to support the assessment of institutional retention data. Must be a self-starter with demonstrated ability to handle projects from start to finish, reach out and engage students, and ability to work well as part of a team to support the unit's goals. Creativity and thinking outside the box in developing new programming ideas for ways to engage students is essential.
