Job Overview The College of Nursing (CON) at the University of Cincinnati (UC) is seeking to fill the Greer Glazer Endowed Chair in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, a 12-month tenured faculty position, to lead the equity and inclusion efforts of the CON. One of the first Endowed Chairs with this focus at a College of Nursing, we are seeking passionate researchers with an established program of federally funded research and scholarly publication with a focus on diversity, equity and inclusion to serve in this recently established Chair. On a full-time basis, the Chair’s primary responsibility is to direct the College’s diversity and inclusion efforts while conducting research in the area. The Chair will lead the establishment of a strategic map for diversity, equity and inclusive excellence at the CON that reflects the tripartite mission of research, education, and service. This is a rare opportunity for someone with passion in this area, as the Chair will have the ability to influence and lead thousands of students, faculty, staff, and alumni with the potential to impact the profession of nursing and our community forever.
The Endowed Chair has the opportunity to work with a highly effective leadership team in a supportive and inclusive culture. Since 2013, the CON has offered diversity student success programming first through federal funding followed by a college-funded program called “Leadership 2.0” and Healthpath. These are multifaceted recruitment and retention programs aimed at enhancing diversity within the CON’s undergraduate program. They target applicants from historically underrepresented racial and ethnic backgrounds with the intent to retain and graduate a diverse nursing workforce. The CON has established and maintained a holistic admissions process and multiple-mini interviews to increase diversity by identifying applicants with attributes and characteristics desired in the nursing workforce that cannot be captured by quantitative metrics alone. The CON has its own Committee on Equity and Inclusive Excellence (CEIE) comprised of faculty, staff, students, Board of Advisors members, and alumni. This committee generates many activities as they plan book clubs, movie nights, host guest speakers, and plan an annual Culture Festival held at the College. Our efforts have been recognized at the national level by receipt of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing’s Diversity, Inclusion and Sustainability in Nursing Education Lectureship Award and six-time recipient of the Health Professions Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) award.
An Associate Professor at the University of Cincinnati is expected to teach, conduct research, scholarly and other professional or creative activities. Conduct and teach assigned undergraduate and/or graduate-level courses and seminars.
Attend meetings, participate in governance, prepare materials for teaching.
Evaluate and develop curriculum for department and/or college.
Serve as an academic adviser for students and evaluate student coursework.
Serve on college or university committees and participate in curriculum development activities.
Serve on graduate committees, supervise laboratories (where appropriate), independent study activities, and off-campus learning.
Engage in other activities ancillary to or in support of his or her responsibilities.
Render service to the professional or lay community which is relevant to the individual’s academic specialty.
Review, and where necessary, respond in a timely manner to all University-related communications.
Other related duties as assigned.
Required Education Must have obtained a Doctorate or terminal degree from a regionally accredited college or university of recognized standing in a field appropriate to the requirements of the position.
Required Trainings/Certifications Active unencumbered Ohio RN license or ability to obtain an Ohio License.
Forms relationships with diverse groups of individuals and groups based on mutual respect, valuing differences, and building on strengths.
Past leadership experience (not necessarily within academe) with proven ability to lead others effectively.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to develop and maintain high quality collaborations and partnerships.
Have an established program of externally funded research in diversity, equity and inclusive excellence and evidence of sustained, substantial external funding and scholarly publication with an earned research doctorate (nursing preferred).
Must be eligible for rank of Associate Professor or Professor.
