Under direction of higher-level K-14 Academic Preparation Specialist, works with assigned institutions and organizations to implement the GEAR UP program. Maintains program visibility in schools. Maintains collaborative relationships with K-14 institutions and / or community entities. Maintains relationships with other college-going programs.
Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, or related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Knowledge and experience working with a diverse student population, and sensitivity to culture, race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, and socio-economic status. Knowledge and understanding of K-14 education. Knowledge of higher education institutions (UC, CSU, CC, etc.), admissions and financial aid requirements, and the ability to interpret policies and procedures to youth, parents, and school representatives. Minimum three (3) years' experience with federal GEAR UP/TRIO programs, or similar educational opportunity programs, for youth and families in under-resources communities. Ability to maintain cooperative relationships with school district administrators, school counselors, principals, teachers, and community contacts. Thorough knowledge of high school graduation and college entrance requirements.
Special Conditions Required:
Possess valid California's driver's license and access to a personal vehicle for travel to assigned schools.
Special Conditions Preferred:
Ability to speak fluently in Spanish and English.
