Essential Functions: Wayne Law's Office of Career and Professional Development seeks an Academic Advisor II/III to serve as Director of Employer Development to join its dedicated team of professionals. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive career support to Wayne Law students and alumni, with a particular emphasis on career opportunities in the private sector. Responsibilities will include management of the law school's on-campus interview programs and implementing strategies for effective employer outreach. Responsibilities will also include facilitating networking opportunities for students, presenting at career-related programs and workshops, and maintaining a thorough understanding of employment trends in Michigan and nationally. The successful candidate will assist with the collection and analysis of employment statistics and assist with compiling employment reports. This position reports to the Assistant Dean of the Office of Career and Professional Development.Essential Functions:Counsel and advise students through every phase of the career exploration and job search process, with a particular emphasis on employment opportunities within law firms and corporations.Review and provide feedback on student and alumni employment application materials, including cover letters and resumes.Conduct mock interviews with students and alumni and provide feedback and suggestions for enhancing interview performance.Help students develop the skills to present as polished professionals.Handle student appointments, telephone inquiries and email requests from students, alumni and employers.Maintain contact with Wayne Law student organizations to enhance students' knowledge of career planning, job search strategies and employment opportunities.Develop and maintain relationships with employers and relevant bar associations to facilitate networking and employment opportunities for students. Develop and deliver educational programming for students on job search strategies and professional development.Draft informational guides on a variety of career-related topics for use by students and alumni.Develop and coordinate job opportunities for students and alumni.Develop and implement strategies that encourage employers to hire students and alumni.Remain abreast of local and national employment trends and avenues for enhancing job search success.Assist in collecting and maintaining statistical data on student and graduate employment outcomes.Represent the Office of Career and Professional Development at open house events sponsored by Wayne Law's Office of Admission.Speak at law school events, including career orientation for first-year students.Work cooperatively with law school faculty and staff to enhance career opportunities for students and alumni.Additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications: Juris Doctor degree required from an ABA-accredited law school.At least one year of post-graduate law practice experience strongly preferred.Knowledge Skills and Abilities:Strong organizational and project management skills; ability to manage priorities effectively and meet deadlines.Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written and listening.Ability to build fruitful relationships at all levels within the law school, with alumni, law firm representatives and other employers.Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationship with students.Highly motivated, creative and innovative.Ability to act independently within broad procedural guidelines, take initiative and exercise sound judgment.Strong attention to detail.Ability to work occasional evening and weekend hours.
