The Director of Admission reports to the Vice President for Enrollment and acts as a senior advisor to the VP on all admission matters, and assists with strategic enrollment planning.
The Director will be responsible for leading day-to-day recruitment efforts in addition to managing a recruitment territory.
The Director is expected to be a collaborative leader with the ability to train, mentor, motivate and supervise the admission counseling staff towards achieving annual enrollment goals.
The Director will also be expected to collaborate, effectively communicate, and maintain established relationships between the office of admission and faculty, coaches, staff, and alumni.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Work closely with the Vice President for Enrollment to establish goals and strategic initiatives for enrollment success in the short and long term.
Coordinate and align daily recruitment actions to successfully support a comprehensive recruitment plan.
Assist in developing a communication plan that will effectively share the Simpson story with all constituents.
Provide leadership and management of the admission counseling team, further developing and mentoring the staff to be urgently responsive, innovative, results-oriented, and student-centered.
Manage a recruitment territory which includes visiting high schools, conducting both group information sessions and individual interviews, attending college fairs, and hosting college counselor programs.
Coordination and oversight of all recruitment travel for the admission team.
Routinely analyze and assess with the VP for Enrollment, the effectiveness of recruitment activities and make appropriate adjustments to lead an effort that is continuously proactive and responsive to market forces and institutional priorities.
Desired Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
At least 5 years of admission experience with increasing responsibilities and a proven track record in territory management, leadership, and supervision.
Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively convey the value of a residential, liberal arts education.
Ability to review, process, and make recommendations to the Vice President for Enrollment for current best practices in enrollment management.
An appreciation and understanding of the value of a data-driven approach to evaluation and decision-making.
Deep understanding of the use of CRMs (particularly Slate) and the ability to leverage them as a recruitment tool.
Ability to listen to and evaluate many different perspectives while being thoughtful in the decision-making process.
Understanding of scholarship and financial aid and leveraging of both scholarship and need-based aid.
Strong organization skills with the ability to prioritize and easily multi-task.
Collaborative approach while still being comfortable making decisions.
Contribute to and pro-actively build an ethical, professional working environment.
