Asbury University is looking for a qualified candidate to fill the full time role of Director of Financial Aid.
The Director of Financial Aid reports to the Vice President for Business Affairs and Treasurer. The Director oversees all student financial aid programs which include the financial management and awarding of university funded grants, Federal Family Education Loan Programs, Federal Perkins Loans, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants, Federal Pell Grants, Federal Work-Study and other small assistance programs; coordinates departmental student aid funds. An important part of the position is supporting the mission of the University and advancing the academic excellence and spiritual vitality of our University and students. Each employee plays an important role in the development of the Christian faith in our students.
Responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the University’s student financial aid programs to optimize student enrollment across multiple programs.
Counsel students and parents about their financial aid status.
Advises staff, high school counselors, other college personnel, and off-campus agencies on all aspects of student financial aid.
Prepares, writes, and files required state and federal reports; answers questions and provides information during audits and official reviews to justify policies, procedures, and variances.
Maintain current and accurate files in accordance with federal and state regulations.
Maintain current and accurate lists of students eligible for the university work-study program.
File and prepare reports as mandated by federal or state regulations and as requested by the Vice President.
Process student financial aid packages that enhance the recruitment effort.
Responsible for maintaining Title IV Participation Agreement with the U.S. Department of Education. Submits new programs for approval of funding and ensures compliance with Title IV aid program.
Maintain accurate controls over financial aid funds.
Manages annual budget process for department. Approves and monitors office expenditures.
Monitors fund balances in institutional computer system and external systems. Take appropriate action to maximize usage of grant funds and to prevent over awards.
Attends internal and external meetings and conferences, and reports changes to program requirements.
Supervises, trains, and evaluates department staff; works with staff to assign responsibilities, determines department priorities and procedures, and ensures cross-training occurs.
Maintain communication with the Admissions Office. Assist with new student recruitment, including giving financial aid presentations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Physical requirements for this position are standard office requirements.
This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position, and normal work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. This position requires additional hours and weekend work.
Travel: Occasional travel may be expected.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required. Master’s degree in university student personnel, business administration, or a related field preferred.
3-5 years’ direct experience required. 5-7 years preferred.
General knowledge of university administrative functions including enrollment, admissions, budget, registration, and business services.
Proficient computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, and Outlook. Ability to learn new technology systems.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
