The incumbent serves as a clinical strategist within the Chief Strategy Office (CSO) and provides executive level guidance and advice to the Chief Strategy Officer (SES) as well as his/her SES direct reports by using clinical expertise or healthcare industry expertise to provide insights into alternative futures or scenarios that impact how VA provides healthcare to Veterans. The incumbent collaborates with senior officials within the Assistant Undersecretaries for Clinical Services, Patient Care Services, Community Care, Quality and Patient Safety and Discovery, Education and Affiliate Networks and other key stakeholders to achieve VA goals. The incumbent is responsible for studying the healthcare ecosystem in its current state and future trends to understand, anticipate, prepare and gain advantage over coming healthcare challenges to develop strategies to support VHA Mission, goals, objectives, and effective planning of VA health care. The Chief Strategy Office guides the VHA executive leadership team to create its strategic vision and set the course for the VA healthcare delivery system. Additional duties include (but are not limited to): Conducts scanning/analyses for current trends that provide evidence of an emerging trend. Develops multiple scenarios (alternate futures) from a clinical service as well as infrastructure support perspective. Utilizes healthcare and/or clinical expertise for strategic visioning, foresight, thinking and planning to research and develop VHA's point-of-view on long-term trends and how these trends are being driven by emerging and accelerated technology change. Creates and manages the annual output of the company's visioning work.
