The MFM Division Director reports to the Chair/Chief of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology. S/he will be expected to devote 50% effort to clinical work and 50% effort to administrative and academic pursuits. These percent efforts may be adjusted as deemed appropriate by the Chair/Chief. The Division Director will work with the Department Chair/Chief, MFM division manager, Department Administrative Director, CNEMG administration and hospital administration to ensure accurate and successful management of the Division's clinical units and finances. The Division Director will be responsible for budgeting and strategic planning within the Division. Responsibilities include and are not limited to input into budget and planning with oversight of the division's budget (revenues and expenses), annual performance metrics and faculty compensation plan. The Division Director will participate actively in the maintenance and further development of the perinatal referral network for southeastern New England and ensure that there is prompt communication and follow-up with referring physicians. The Division Director will be responsible for maintaining good working relationships with community-based physicians as well as outlying referring physicians and hospitals. The MFM Division Director is expected to work collaboratively with other hospital departments including Obstetric Medicine, Neonatology, Diagnostic Imaging and Pathology. Strategically enhancing the High Risk Pregnancy Program in collaboration with Obstetric Medicine is an expectation for the program leadership. The Division Director is responsible for further developing an active research program that is innovative and leverages collaboration. The Division Director is expected to support the growth of the division's federal and foundation grant portfolio. S/he is responsible for ensuring that divisional grants and grant budgets are managed in compliance with hospital and federal guidelines. The Division Director is responsible for providing exceptional teaching to Brown medical students, residents, and fellows in the obstetrics and gynecology program. The Division Director is responsible for maintaining a high quality ACGME-approved Maternal Fetal Medicine fellowship and attracting high quality fellows to the program. The Division Director is expected to participate in Departmental leadership and faculty meetings and events, hospital and health system committee meetings as assigned, and medical school committees as assigned. The Division Director is responsible for communicating relevant information to the division members as well as to departmental leadership. The Division Director is expected to conduct regularly scheduled Division meetings with providers as well as staff. The Division Director will ensure that all members of the divisional faculty participate actively in the affairs of the department and hospital medical staff. The Division Director will be responsible for ensuring the academic and professional development of the divisional faculty including involving appropriate mentors and advisors.
The Maternal Fetal Medicine Division Director must be board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG) in the subspecialty of Maternal Fetal Medicine, be nationally recognized in Maternal Fetal Medicine, and qualify for a full-time faculty position as Professor or Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. H/She must be eligible for medical licensure in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut.
Administrative and inter-personal skills are necessary in order to manage and advance the division within the department, hospital, and the medical school. The MFM Division Director should have experience in supervising physicians, as well as clinical and non clinical staff members and be capable of managing the division to yield outstanding patient outcomes, patient satisfaction, and financial results. The Division Director will be responsible for developing and ensuring the continued success of the Division's clinical programs, research and teaching activities, and faculty development. The Division Director will be responsible for managing all aspects of the Division in the context of a health care environment which presents increasingly complex challenges to academic medicine.
