The University of Southern Californiaâs Iovine and Young Academy is seeking a Student Services Advisor I to join its team. This position will provide a range of services to support both undergraduate and graduate student populations.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES / JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES
Principal duties will include:
Provide academic advising for students on matters of curriculum, course and degree requirements, and graduation counseling and clearance.
Support the recruitment and admission initiatives of the Iovine and Young Academy undergraduate and graduate programs.
Plan and assist with student programs including new student orientation, commencement, residential programs, and career and professional development programs.
Serve as a resource for prospective students and families on admission, financial aid, housing and academic requirements.
Evaluate student problems (academic, administrative, personal) and refer students to appropriate student services for additional counseling. Liaise with other offices on behalf of students to facilitate problem resolution.
Maintain student records and compile statistical data. Prepare reports for internal and external use.
Plan and assist with student programs including new student orientation, commencement, and residential programs.
Maintain currency on policies, procedures and regulations pertaining to admission, financial aid, registration, transfer credit evaluation, course and degree requirements, petitions and other student services.
Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
The ideal candidate will have experience working with undergraduate and graduate degree programs and student services in the context of a comprehensive college or university and have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Candidates must have the ability to work successfully within a team of staff and faculty members. Occasional travel, evening and weekend work is required.Â
Understanding of higher education operations and a familiarity with relevant computer applications, including Excel, Power Point or Keynote, etc.
Knowledge of student and academic programs, policies and procedures and knowledge of student information systems (such as SIS).
Minimum 3 years of experience in student services and advising
