The Academic Advisor role focuses on providing highly individualized support to students as they plan their course of study and assisting the Admissions Office and Registrar with course registration and advising for new students. The role involves supporting the work of the College Counseling department and overseeing standardized testing and the summer internship program. The employee reports to the Director of College Counseling.
OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Offer academic advising to students in grades 8-10 with a balanced view of the student’s whole person, including academics, athletics, arts, social development and family life.
Equip students to make informed and increasingly mature and independent decisions about their academic goals, by enabling them to consider the full range of academic opportunities.
Assist with course registration for Middle and Upper School students
Support Admissions and the Registrar with new student schedules.
Serve as Test Coordinator, overseeing the administration of the October PSAT (grades 9-11), spring ACT (grades 10-11) and AP exams (grades 10-12) and work with the Academic Support Program to coordinate testing for students needing accommodations.
Schedule group meetings with visiting college representatives, virtual or in-person. Book space and A/V equipment and post signage.
Support College Counseling: Maintain accurate data and document uploads in SCOIR, check transcripts, provide grade distribution for school profile, prepare materials for scholarship committee meetings and major programs.
The ideal candidate would have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in academic counseling or related field and a minimum of 5 years of experience. Previous experience in testing coordination, including for students needing accommodations, and transcript software is a plus.
