O'Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs seeks knowledgeable Academic Advising professionals who promote holistic academic advising and support the O'Neill mission and the Undergraduate Programs Office vision. The Undergraduate Program is an engaging, supportive, and informative base for all members of the O'Neill undergraduate community. The Academic Advisor is an educator, using an array of advising tools that identifies the curriculum, pedagogy, and defined learning outcomes and reinforces and supports student academic success and retention. Responsibilities for this position include advising undergraduate O'Neill students by assisting them in understanding and meeting their academic goals. The Advisor will communicate regularly with students and assist in academic planning, interpret school policies and procedures, explain degree requirements, course sequencing, and major requirements, and suggest academic and professional development resources and document in electronic student files. The Advisor will establish rapport with students and communicate with assigned advisees.
Additional responsibilities include participation in new student summer orientation advising, managing student caseloads, assisting the Director and faculty members with overseas study course articulations for non O'Neill programs, attending various SPEA Undergraduate Programs Office events and programs, and developing, updating, and revising SPEA Advising forms and publications. The Advisor will also be assigned other duties. Examples of these duties include but are not limited to: liaising with O'Neill Healthcare Management and Policy faculty, serve as a member of the academic action committee, and participate as an ex officio member of a faculty curriculum committee or other school committees.
An academic advising promotional structure is in place and individuals with collegiate level advising experience who can demonstrate increasingly higher levels of professional advising experience will be considered based on level of expertise.
Master's degree in a related field and two years in student affairs, teaching, academic advising, or a related field.
Combinations of related education and experience may be considered.

Three years in student affairs, teaching, academic advising, or related field.
Previous experience in a student-focused, higher education environment is highly desired.
Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
