Under the direction of the Director, Special Services, the Speech Pathologist assesses the speech development level, delivers instruction to remediate deficiencies, and provides information useful to student placement and the ongoing development of language proficiency by students who are recommended or referred, often by IEP, for speech intervention services.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Assesses students’ communication skills (e.g.,articulation, language, fluency, voice, etc.) for the purpose of determining their speech and language deficits; prescribes intervention strategies to remediate the identified deficiencies; instructs students for the purpose of implementing goals for remediation of speech and language deficits; consults with teachers, parents, and other personnel and/or outside professionals for the purpose of providing requested information, developing plans for services, or making recommendations; develop Individualize Education Plans (IEPs) and provide specialized instruction and services for pupils with disorders of language, speech and hearing; regularly monitor pupil progress as related to the IEP; participate in review and revision of the IEP as related to speech needs at IEP meetings; prepares documentation (e.g. evaluation, observations, testing, contact with parents) for the purpose of providing written support for the referred student; presents information on various topics related to area of professional expertise for the purpose of communicating information and gaining feedback on treatment issues; maintain a regular schedule of visits to the various school sites where speech remediation services will be delivered; and perform other related duties as assigned:

Assessment instruments and their application
Interpret datagathered from assessments and link to remediation strategies
Teaching methods appropriate to various speech disabilities
Relevant Education Code
Interpersonal skills to establish cooperative relationships with students, parents and staff
Good oral and written communication skills in English
Possessor of Valid license for speech therapy (ASHA certification and/or California license)
Valid California driver’s license
Previous job related experience, which could include teaching
