Middle and Upper School Technology and Instructional Specialist
The Middle and Upper School Technology and Instructional Specialist serves as part of the school’s instructional support team, providing job-embedded and ongoing professional development for teachers. The TIS builds and develops the faculty pedagogy and digital literacy skills for teachers and students. The TIS supports the experience of students and faculty and embraces the mission, vision, and core values of the school, Flint Hill Statement of Institutional Equity and Inclusion and the Portrait of the Flint Hill Student. The TIS reports to the Middle School Director and is a ten month faculty position with a report date of mid-August.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with administrators, department chairs, teachers, specialists, counselors and other school staff to strengthen all aspects of the instructional program.
Assist teachers with the development of daily, weekly and unit lesson plans.
Assist teachers with assessing problem areas in curriculum and instruction and in finding and implementing appropriate solutions, including the approach use of technology in the classroom..
Introduce teachers to new methods, materials and instructional strategies that, through research, have proven to increase student achievement.
Model best instructional practices through actual classroom demonstrations.
Make informal classroom observations and provide immediate feedback for the purpose of instructional support and program improvement.
Assist teachers in considering the use of technology to enhance and extend instruction.
Assist teachers in developing sound, defensible assessments that are aligned with both instructional practices and objectives.
Build and maintain confidential relationships with teachers in order to create and maintain a high level of trust.
Model what it means to be an empowered, ethical and connected learner through the use of digital technologies.
Provide technical assistance and collaborate with teachers and administrators to determine effective digital tools and resources for all learners.
Develop professional learning activities that include in-class demonstrations, web-based tutorials, didactic lessons, web-based resource center, and other accessible methods of instruction for teachers.
Works Collaboratively with the Director of Studies and Director of Human Resources in New Faculty Orientation week and continuing New Faculty and Staff Orientation. to run New Faculty OrientationServes as mentor and contact for New Faculty in their first academic year and with Continuing New Faculty Orientation Program throughout the year
Supports Division Directors and the Director of Studies in all professional development initiatives for the school including pre-planning, professional development programming and post-planning.
Assists with the creation of the Teacher’s Toolkit newsletter and any other publication from the TIS department. Assists in the completion of the Apple Distinguished School application (every 3 years).
Facilitates visits from our Apple Learning Specialist
This position starts mid-August and works through the end of the professional development week.
Other duties as assigned
A minimum of 3 years using current and emerging technologies to support learning.
A minimum of 3 years classroom teaching experience.
Master’s degree in Educational Technology or related field is preferred.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
