In 2019, businessman and philanthropist T. Denny Sanford committed $100 million towards the creation of the T. Denny Sanford Institute for Empathy and Compassion at UC San Diego. This gift establishes a virtual institute to study the neurobiological basis of empathy and compassion and implement training models for physician education (medical students through practicing physicians) to effectively teach the practice of compassion for self and others.
With the establishment of the Institute, investments will be made towards expanding subject matter expertise through key professorships, seed funding for research and collaborative projects, and appointment of research fellows and scholars. Additional activities include the establishment of an annual international conference, integration of new methods into the medical school curriculum, enhancing the Student- Run Free Clinic and establishment of various centers.
This is a highly specialized position that has the responsibility for serving the Institute for resolution of complex analytical issues. Incumbent will:

Seven (7) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area plus three (3) years of related experience/training.
Knowledge and experience in the field of medical genetics, genetics and biomedicine, gender and health, data and algorithms in medicine, bioethics or science and technology research studies.
Strong thorough knowledge of research techniques to develop, implement, and evaluate genetics research projects.
Demonstrated experience in the design, administering and evaluation of genetic data education programs.
Thorough knowledge of research function. Knowledge of relevant internal databases, applications and tools. Ability to produce high-quality reports and documentation. Experienced independently developing and building, programming, and maintaining, databases and data warehouses. Significant experience utilizing reporting software to analyze data and design and generate reports at an advanced level.
Thorough skills associated with statistical analysis and systems programming. Must have demonstrated advanced ability to identify issues; analyze data; develop, recommend, and implement, solutions.
Proven skills in analysis and consultation. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to manage complex information, assess problems, and develop and effective solutions.
Strong skills to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing.
Demonstrated skills in project management.
Solid research skills at a level to evaluate alternate solutions and develop recommendations.
Thorough knowledge of business intelligence functions, analytics, industry standards and best practices.
Must have advanced ability to clearly and concisely convey technical information, both written and verbal, to a broad audience.
Proficient experienced with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Experienced in documenting results of reporting procedures, requirements, and reports, in a highly organized fashion both with internal collaborators and external stakeholders.
Experienced training and collaborating with staff at a variety of technical levels. Ability to work effectively with personnel on operational and analytics issues. Ability to build relationships and mentor other personnel. Acts as a positive and contributing team player with strong professional commitment.
