Under the direction of the Associate Chief Financial Officer and System Director of Patient Access, the Oncology Revenue Cycle Supervisor has primary responsibility for the revenue cycle functions for oncology services within UCSD Health. This position will work with key stakeholders across the enterprise to ensure that UCSD receives optimal reimbursement for oncology services. This includes the coordination/integration of best practices with other departments, optimizing processes for authorizations, insurance identification and verification, charge capture, coding, monitoring denial trends, and collaborating with relevant teams to improve appeal processes.
The position is also responsible for analyzing monthly reports for claims, receipts, revenue, denials, meaningful use, and other pertinent data sets to identify opportunities and implement change management. The position supervises the authorization teams for infusion, radiation oncology, and ancillary services that support oncology care for UCSD Health. The incumbent will establish and monitor productivity metrics for authorization staff and ensure accountability for the unit. Provides direction, sets priorities, and analyzes workflow for subordinate revenue cycle activities, according to established policies and management guidance. Recommends, develops and implements new and revised procedures as needed.
The incumbent: Stays current with regulatory revisions in payment methodologies, policy and procedures, and reimbursement policies via seminars, websites, etc. Communicates effectively and interacts with providers, staff and health plans daily or as indicated regarding referral authorization issues. Maintains current knowledge of various insurance carrier processes necessary to obtain prior authorization. Champions new initiatives: act as a catalyst of change and stimulate others to change; pave the way for needed changes; and manage change implementation effectively. Steps forward to address difficult issues; put self on the line to deal with important problems; take ownership and accountability.
Nine (9) years of related experience, education/training within healthcare revenue cycle – supervisory/management experience in authorizations, billing/coding, charge capture, and denials OR a Bachelor's degree in related area plus five (5) years of related experience experience/training within healthcare revenue cycle – supervisory/management experience in authorizations, billing/coding, charge capture, and denials.
Demonstrated experience and proven success in supervisory and organizational skills.
Strong ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Process improvement and/or change management experience.
Registered Nurse experience.
Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
