Reporting to the Secondary Principal, the Secondary Vice Principal assists in ensuring a positive, safe, learning and teaching culture that is rooted in Island Pacific Academy’s mission, vision, and core values. In addition, the Secondary Vice Principal fosters a school climate that is conducive to best meeting the needs of all students, administrators, faculty, staff, and families.
The Secondary Vice Principal is responsible for leading, organizing, and providing students with academic and behavioral support inclusive of ensuring adherence to guidelines set forth by the Island Pacific Academy Parent/Student Handbook. Other essential functions include creating effective parent, teacher, and student communications; supporting, encouraging, mentoring, and evaluating assigned personnel; and fostering teamwork between teachers, students, and parents.
The Secondary Vice Principal is an integral part of the administrative team. In addition, as a key member of the Secondary Leadership Team, assists the Secondary Principal in providing guidance and support in the creation, implemention, and evaluation of the school’s strategic vision, plan, policies, procedures, curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
The Secondary Vice Principal is responsible for assuming supervision of the Secondary School on behalf of or in the absence the Secondary Principal.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversee and administers school policies and procedures regarding student conduct and behavior, restorative practices and discipline according to the IPA Parent/Student Handbook.
Collaborates with the Secondary Principal and the Secondary Leadership Team in providing curricular, instructional, and assessment leadership for faculty.
Assists the Secondary Principal in supporting staffing requirements, such as interviewing, selecting, and orienting new personnel.
Supervise reporting and monitoring of student attendance and work with the Secondary Office Manager on follow-up investigations.
Ensure that students are adequately supervised during instructional and non-instructional times.
Assumes responsibility for organizing certain student awards and recognition events.
Collaborates with the Secondary Principal and the Registrar in creating the Master and Bell Schedules.
Leads, creates, and oversees faculty supervision schedules and assists in fulfilling administrator and faculty chaperone assignments.
Oversees Secondary Counseling and supervises the implementation of support services for students with learning differences and/or behavioral interventions.
Assumes responsibility for identifying, working with, and supporting students on Academic Probation or on contract holds.
Assists the Secondary Principal and Admissions Office in reviewing student applications and making recommendations for possible admission to IPA.
Creates, maintains, and updates academic and behavioral support plans for Secondary students.
Liaise with parents, teachers, and students inclusive of conferences and/or meetings that support student achievement, learning, growth, and development.
Works with, coordinates, and collaborates with external providers (e.g., Hawaii Department of Education) regarding student care or support services.
Organize parent educational opportunities and activities concerning educational programming and student matters.
Lead special projects and initiatives as assigned by the Secondary principal (e.g., Accreditation).
Participates in strategic decision-making, programmatic planning and evaluation of short-term and long-term campus-wide strategic goals, objectives, and timelines.
Lead the recruitment and onboarding of substitutes for the Secondary.
Work with the Secondary Principal to update faculty, staff, parent, and student IPA handbooks.
Assist the Secondary Principal, Student Activities Coordinator, Counselors, Class Sponsors, and Pu’uhonua advisors in welcoming and/or orienting incoming students and families to Island Pacific Academy.
Assists the Athletic Director with student eligibility to participate in IPA sports in accordance with the IPA Athletic Handbook.
Work directly with the Facilities and Technology Departments to troubleshoot operational/ technical/logistical problems, address concerns, or answer questions from faculty, students, and families.
In coordination with the Registrar, assume a leadership role in the development and communication of individual student schedules.
Participates in professional growth activities personally and for the Secondary division.
Participates actively in school events that may encompass set up, attendance, break down, and clean up.
Supports the Student Activities Coordinator in implementing and monitoring co-curricular and extra-curricular activities and clubs.
Assists Secondary Principal in the supervision of assigned faculty and/or staff.
Other duties as assigned by the Head of School, Secondary Principal, or designee.
Master’s degree in educational administration or related field
Extensive teaching and administrative experience
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Strong written and verbal communication as well as presentation skills
Excellent research and report writing abilities
Experience developing, organizing and implementing programs.
Must have knowledge of Google Suite, Adobe and Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word.
