Leadership Education and Development (LEAD) within the Division of Student Affairs at Appalachian State University is seeking a skilled leadership educator to positively influence student leadership across campus. As a visionary, advocate, and supporter of student leadership, this Assistant Director will have the opportunity to shape and create transformative experiential and academic leadership experiences for students.
This position serves a critical role, directing a leadership-focused Residential Learning Community with 12-20 residents, managing a signature leadership program for 200 first-year students, co-directing a 4-year scholarship program of 40 students, and teaching courses in the Leadership Studies Minor. Direct supervision includes 1 Graduate Assistant, a Summer Graduate Intern, 2 Undergraduate Student Directors, and a Graduate Teaching Assistant. The Assistant Director reports to the Associate Director for LEAD, joins a dynamic team of 3 full-time and 3 graduate student staff, and works closely with passionate colleagues across campus.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: ? Master’s degree in Student Development, Student Affairs, Leadership Studies, Higher Education, or a related field ? Minimum of three years full-time experience working in student leadership development in higher education or a related context; two years of relevant Graduate Assistantship work may count as one year of full-time experience. ? Demonstrated experience in leadership program development and delivery including training and facilitation skills ? Demonstrated effectiveness in working with college students, colleagues, and community constituents as educator, advisor, and leader ? Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and communication skills PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: ? Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion; ability to utilize critical perspectives to inform one’s work ? Demonstrated effectiveness as a supervisor; ability to coach and develop others ? Demonstrated experience in teaching, curriculum development, and/or research in leadership studies
