The Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Services directs and manages a comprehensive advising and counseling program for student-athletes. This individual also maintains a liaison relationship with various University units to facilitate student progress at the University.
Assist the coaches with the academic requirement of their recruits.
Serve as primary academic advisor for sports of Women's Track, Women's Cross Country, Men's Cross Country, Women's Golf, Men's Golf, Rifle, Women's Tennis, Softball and Soccer.
Establishes, maintains and monitors the academic records of assigned sports.
Development of the academic enhancement program.
Monitors class attendance and course performance of student-athletes of assigned sports.
Develops information on academic obligations, athletic eligibility and personal problems of the student-athletes in order to assist them in maintaining appropriate academic progress of assigned sports.
Initiates and maintains contact with the Office of Admissions and Records concerning the admission status of prospective student-athletes of assigned sports.
Maintains a liaison relationship with the Registrar's Office, Admissions Office, Counseling Center, African-American Student Services and Ethnic Programs, and academic departments to facilitate student progress at the University.
Co-Administer FYE Freshman Year Experience class for student-athletes as needed.
Maintains and operates the book room and serve as bookstore liaison.
Supervision of the Weaver Center and contact with campus technology services regarding computers in Weaver Center.
Preparation and distribution of student-athlete handbook
Serve on university and NCAA committees as directed
Assist in game management for the sports of Football & Basketball.
Maintains and schedules facilities, provides reporting to head coaches for all study hall weekly.
Find, hire, train, manage, assign, track appointments for academic tutors and academic mentors.
Member of the athletics department Diversity and Inclusion team.
Serve as game administrator for home games with specific teams as assigned.
Coordinate Varsity letter awards for all sports (letter jackets and letter rings)
Advisor for Chi Alpha Sigma membership (National Student-Athlete Honor Society)
Serve on the Campus Who's Who selection committee.
Other duties as assigned
As a member of the Murray State University Athletic Department, you shall comply with all applicable NCAA rules and regulations as provided in the NCAA Division I Manual. If you are found in violation of NCAA regulations, you shall be subject to disciplinary or corrective action as set forth in the provisions of the NCAA enforcement procedures, including suspension without pay or termination of employment for significant or repetitive violations.
Minimum Education Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree required.
Minimum Experience and Skill Requirements:
2-3 years' experience in academic advising, preferably in Division I athletics
Ability to work well with students, faculty, staff
Strong working knowledge of NCAA rules and academic standards
Demonstrated understanding and strong commitment to cultural diversity
Good communication skills
Strong leadership skills
Strong organizational skills
