The University of California's only school of international affairs, the School of Global Policy & Strategy (GPS) provides a unique resource for training leaders, creating ideas, and building networks for the governance of globalization and its local impacts. Offering nine B.A. degree options, three combined BA/MIA programs, and a minor program, the International Studies Program explores the interaction between the international and national, global and local, contemporary and historical ideas shaping globalization. GPS is also the parent organization to major research centers: Center for Commerce and Diplomacy (CCD), Center on Global Transformation (CGT), Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies, 21st Century China Center, Fudan-UC Center on China, Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation (IGCC), Policy Design and Evaluation Lab (PDEL), Laboratory on International Law and Regulation (ILAR), and Japan Forum for Innovation and Technology (JFIT).
The Assistant Director of Research and Writing for the China Programs manages the 21st Century China Center's research and policy publications, including original blogs, interviews and policy briefs. Advises leadership with respect to policy development and implementation to promote program goals. In collaboration with academic leadership, assumes responsibility for short and long-term projections and analysis of available and projected financial resources for use in forecasting and planning of program activities and personnel. Facilitates ongoing research discussions by faculty and organizes new research initiatives among faculty, including collaborative research projects with Chinese scholars. Drafts and edits grant applications (individual or collaborative) as well as grant progress reports and regulatory reports. Other duties within scope of description.

Demonstrated fluency in written/spoken Chinese.
Advanced degree in public policy, social sciences or international relations, and four (4) years of experience in a related field (e.g., research operations or administrative analyses); or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
In depth knowledge of China, U.S.-Chinese relations, Chinese culture and current events; as well as, thorough knowledge of and familiarity with the leading figures in Chinese intellectual, political, and business communities.
Excellent knowledge of accepted social protocols in order to interact and communicate effectively with senior government officials, business executives, scholars, and opinion leaders with poise, confidence, and professionalism. Thorough understanding of and familiarity with Chinese and other Asian cultural norms and nuances.
Proven experience working with faculty in developing research plans and in writing and securing contracts, grants and/or other support from public and private funding sources for the social sciences.
Experience facilitating communications with PhD-level faculty and researchers across a broad range of disciplines and cultures. Ability to identify and promote research excellence of academics and programs.
Proven experience administering programs, including budgeting, fiscal management, marketing, promotion, program revision, expansion and evaluation.
Demonstrated experience posting content, images and videos on LinkedIn, YouTube, Google+, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and other social networking platforms.
