Garrison Forest School has an opening for an Upper School Visual Art Teacher to begin August 2021. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic educator who brings an energetic and contemporary approach to the teaching of art. The ideal candidate would be able to teach 2D mediums with a focus in painting, drawing, and graphic design. Along with classroom teaching, contributing to the co-curricular life of the school is an integral part of the teacher's role in our community, as is a collaborative approach to planning and teaching. Ideal candidates will be interested in preparing our students to live and work in a global and multicultural society. A desire to contribute to the leadership and scholarship of young women are important qualities for this position, as well as an ability to build positive, constructive relationships with students.This position reports to the Head of the Upper School and meets with the Chair of the Visual Art Department.
The Upper School Art Teacher will...
Teach Upper School Art classes with a focus on painting, drawing, and graphic design.
Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of curriculum and subject matter.
Serve as an academic advisor to a group of students
Contribute to the life of the School by chaperoning three-weekend activities per year for the Residential Life program and advising co-curricular activities.
Work alongside the Upper School Administrative team to build a meaningful learning experience for students
Create a secure and stimulating environment in which students grow in both autonomy and the ability to work and interact together.
Take responsibility for being a role model by maintaining an environment that fosters respect among students and colleagues
Possess strong communication skills, a patient and thorough understanding of adolescence and the ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues.
Take on additional opportunities as a coach or living on campus if desired.
