Position Summary As Media andSports Information Specialist, you will be part of the communications office, reporting to the Chief Communications Officer. You will create and maintain a broad media platform that supports the mission of the School with a priority focus on athletics. Your goal will be to design and deliver a multimedia program that delights parents, prospective families, alumni, and current students. Your work will be anchored in the strategy of the communications office, where you will be a key member of the team with responsibilities beyond athletics.
In the athletics portion of your role, you will have the opportunity to create a strategy for sports communications, and during the active athletic season (roughly 30 weeks of the year), directing sports information will be the primary focus of your responsibilities. This will be supplemented by additional priority communications outside of athletics. During the balance of the year, you will continue to serve as a key member of the Communications Office, advancing the School’s media strategy more broadly.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Media Specialist: 50%
Bring your media specialist chops to the table as an advisor on the use of multimedia across School communications and as a contributor to designing communications strategy.
Advise the Chief Communications Officer on the use of video, social media, and mobile marketing across the School.
Plan and produce video and other electronic content, with access to additional support provided by outside vendors where warranted.
Attend School events and manage live-streaming of selected events, from working the equipment to liaising with the School’s vendor partner to ensuring that appropriate content is made available and marketed online.
Create and use data-driven reports to manage the continual development of online channels, including data gathered via Google Analytics, email software, and surveys.
Advise the School on industry standards in video, social media and mobile development.
Contribute to management of digital assets, in collaboration with other team members.
Maintain School standards in writing and graphic identity.
Contribute to strengthening partnership across Athletics, Communications, Admissions, Alumni and other departments.
Serve as a liaison between Communications and students to develop authentic and creative content strategies.
Sports Information: 50%
During the athletic season, collaborate closely with the co-Directors of Athletics to promote the School’s athletic program. Provide internal and external audiences with complete, accurate, and timely information, news, and live action coverage of team and individual sporting contests and events.
Work together with the Athletic Directors and the Chief Communications Officer to develop a meaningful strategy for athletics communication that is grounded in the priorities of the School.
Write, plan and produce video assets for both online website distribution and social media engagement with a focus on recruiting prospective student-athletes.
Manage publicity for all Hotchkiss sports (currently 20 sports and 64 teams), distributing media coverage for all levels of teams, including creation and maintenance of a calendar.
Livestream a variety of athletic contests.
Serve as point person for Playsight (the School’s live stream provider) / HUDL and similar platforms. This will include training coaches on the use of these platforms, troubleshooting, handling upgrades and/or servicing/replacement of digital equipment.
Maintain and update content on the athletics page of the Hotchkiss website. Collaborate with team coaches to ensure accurate game results are posted on the website and on social media.
Supervise athletic social media pages. Develop creative content that drives engagement. Recommend opportunities to grow Hotchkiss Athletics’ social media presence.
Coordinate photographs of teams, individual athletes, and coaches, and manage the library of athletic images.
Oversee the writing/editing/publication of athletic publications such as media guides, programs, brochures, and other materials, ensuring that they meet the style and visual identity guidelines for Hotchkiss.
Contribute to the development of a media strategy in coordination with the Chief Communications Officer.
Support students who participate in the School’s sports media extracurricular (which is overseen by a colleague in the Athletics department) with sports videography.
Perform related duties as needed and assigned.
Bachelor’s degree required;
Experience in sports information, communications, media, journalism, public relations, or related fields;
Demonstrated success in journalistic writing and reporting techniques, including proficient English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation;
Expert attention to detail and accurate data entry skills;
Knowledge of sporting rules and regulations;
Ability to use content management systems, including web pages;
Familiarity with streaming-video technology;
Ability and interest to keep abreast of trends and topics, to help stay in tune with what might interest the school’s audiences and the media;
Ability to establish and maintain a cooperative and effective working relationship with those contacted in the performance of duties;
Demonstrate a sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds;
Ability to work a flexible schedule, willing and able to travel to away athletic events, including evenings and weekends;
