Thayer Academy seeks an innovative, dynamic, collaborative Middle School music teacher and advisor for the 2021-2022 academic year who will teach music in grades 5th -8th and lead our choral music program. This educator will be a visionary for music education continuing to develop a vertically aligned music education program. Topics covered may include GarageBand, working with students to create musical instruments in our collaborative design lab, music history, and world music appreciation, and teaching students guitar or bucket drumming. The ability to serve as a piano accompanist is preferred. Other duties will include serving as an advisor to a small group of students as well as various ancillary duties. Serving as an athletic coach is also welcome.

The ideal candidate possesses a love of the middle school age child, is a team player who can work collaboratively with colleagues, and has at least 1-3 years teaching experience in a school or other educational setting such as a community chorus. A bachelor’s degree is required, and a master’s degree is preferred.

Experience leading a chorus or musical theatre

Commitment to working in and fostering an inclusive community
Knowledge of and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion practices and the desire to incorporate DEI framework into music education
High levels of comfort and experience with technology and audio equipment
Ability to communicate effectively with students and families
Curriculum design and assessment experience
