The Director of College Counseling reports to the Head of School and will plan, strategize, organize, and supervise the college counseling office team while also representing the School to the college community. They will create and execute a comprehensive, student-centered college counseling program based on best practices using group and individual meetings to teach students and families how to manage the college search and post-secondary planning process from a variety of lenses- outcomes, positive mental health, independent agency, realism and a clear understanding of the financial realities. This position will coordinate and collaborate with School faculty and administrators to educate and support both students and teachers in this process. A successful program will maximize communication to reduce stress and produce college outcomes that best suit each individual student and family.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties
Supervise all aspects of the college counseling office including, reports for the Head of School, annual School Profile, budget, CRM program (SCOIR), newsletters, and other communications
Supervise, advise, and evaluate members of the college counseling team
Advise and support a student caseload that primarily includes seniors and juniors and their families in all aspects of the college search, but also includes developing a curriculum, advising, and programming for ninth and tenth-grade students
Research and write a holistic school statement for each counselee.
Design, edit and update annual college counseling guide/documents
Work with the Registrar to produce and disseminate transcripts
Attend relevant conferences, workshops, and college tours.
Communicate with college Deans of Admissions so that they are aware of Kents Hill School and its mission
Keep abreast of NCAA rules and regulations
Direct the planning, presentation, and sponsorship of all office programming
Maintain college counseling office information on the Kents Hill School website
Participate actively in school committees and task forces
Meet regularly with other Senior Administrators to share ideas and seek feedback
Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School
Other Responsibilities and Duties:
Evening and weekend duties as assigned
Coach one sport or teach one class each school year
Serve as an advisor to students
Review applications for admissions
Qualifications: Minimum: Bachelor’s degree and interest in working with teenagers
