Visitation School seeks a full-time (1.0) Upper Counselor (grades 9-12) beginning August 2021. The Counselor is the primary contact and the leader for all preventative and responsive programming that supports the mental health and social-emotional learning of students.
Visitation is an independent Catholic day school serving a co-ed Lower School (Montessori preschool through grade 5), an all-girls Middle School (grades 6-8), and an all-girls Upper School (grades 9-12). A member of NAIS and accredited by ISACS, the school is located on a beautiful 60-acre campus in Mendota Heights, Minnesota.
Position detail includes but is not limited to:
Researching best practices in the field and at peer schools consistently to inform practice and program.
Collaboration within the counseling team, ensuring monthly themes are chosen, developed, delivered, promoted and integrated with divisional work and parent education.
Leading regularly occurring student presentations & programming, division-led parent education events as well as professional development for faculty and staff events around monthly themes, mental health, wellness, social emotional learning, organization, study skills, communication skills, etc.
Participating in the refinement and tailoring of advisory curriculum and training of advisory teachers.
Co-leading SAT and staffing meetings with Learning Specialist.
Conducting student interviews of all new students during summer and/or 1st semester.
Leading regular survey of all students (at least 1x/semester) to determine efficacy of preventative program and adjust accordingly.
Actively participating in quarterly Counseling Department Meetings and monthly US counseling department meetings.
Supporting retreat programming.
Facilitating Peer Mentor Group and its involvement in student life.
Actively participating on Admissions Committee
Making recommendations to administration and teachers about student needs.
Implementing interventions for individuals and small groups.
Managing and tracking intervention services being provided including duration, frequency, success level, etc.
Managing and coordinating academic communications and support among outside professionals, parents and faculty of hospitalized students and students engaged in outpatient mental health treatment.
Mediating conflicts between students, students & parents, and students & teachers
Actively participating in parent meetings as needed for issues requiring counseling perspective.
Making recommendations to administration, teachers and learning specialists regarding students’ needs.
Completing miscellaneous tasks and projects in support of the Upper School and the overall Counseling Department.

Master’s Degree in School Counseling, Psychology or Social Work or related field with three to five years of counseling experience is required. A licensure in School Counseling, School Psychology or Social Work are preferred.
