School Counselor Job Summary
The school counselor job serves as an educator and practitioner who works to support the social-emotional, psychological, and academic success of all students. The Healdsburg School Counselor advances and upholds the School core values of community and inclusion through direct and indirect services to students in order to prepare them to think critically and act responsibly. This is a new position and requires an innovative and open-minded professional with a strong background in supporting children and adolescents in partnership with parents, teachers, administrators, and others.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide SEL instruction in class meeting format
Support teachers in strengthening their SEL knowledge and integration into curricula and classroom management
Coordinate with external therapists and other specialists
Work with Associate Head of School to develop and implement individualized plans for students who need them
Develop programs that promote cultural awareness, knowledge, and skills among students, faculty, and staff
Work with the community to support expansion of student programs and/or curricula that focus on equity, identity, and inclusion
Assist with improving the School’s ability to meet the needs of students and reduce the stigma of mental health services.
Bachelor’s degree required, Masters a plus
3-5 Years Experience in School Counseling
Ability to establish and maintain productive, collaborative relationships with others
Understanding of child development and the role of Social/Emotional learning in building positive, educational environments
Empathy, organization, and compassion
Outstanding oral and written communication skills
An open mind and sense of humor
