Vermont Academy seeks a licensed professional to provide short and long-term individual and group counseling to our students. This is a full-time 10-month position. As a member of Vermont Academy Health Services, this position works collaboratively with the other counselor, the medical director, the consulting psychiatrist as well as the nursing team to support the faculty and other professional staff in their work with students. The counselor reports to the Director of Health Services.
Health Services staff work together to promote community understanding of the social-emotional well-being of students. The counselor will hold a caseload of students, participate in regular on-call shifts for off-hour emergencies, and will be a standing member of the Health Team, helping to create support plans for students of concern. Other responsibilities may include the provision of staff and student life training and participation in other campus-based activities as needed.
The successful candidate must be licensed or license eligible in the state of Vermont with a master’s degree in clinical social work or an advanced degree in clinical or counseling psychology. The candidate must have a demonstrated interest in making a positive impact on the lives and learning of adolescents. Additional qualifications include 3-5 years of counseling experience, strong interpersonal, organizational, and communications skills as well as a demonstrated interest in equity and inclusion including the ability to work collaboratively to support a diverse community.
The ideal candidate will also possess experiential and/or outdoor programming skills as well as an understanding of and comfort in a boarding school environment.
