Tandem Friends School, a co-ed, Quaker, 5th-12th grade independent day school in Charlottesville, Virginia, has an opening for a 5th/6th grade teacher who has a general background in the humanities as well as math and science instruction. For the 2021-2022 school year, this position will likely teach one or two sections each of 6th grade Math and Science; however, in other years, teaching responsibilities could include language arts and/or social studies in 5th or 6th grades.
Tandem Friends seeks teachers who bring diverse skills, knowledge and interests; a willingness to learn new things; and an appreciation for collaboration with students. At TFS, all teachers are active community members who share in the general support and care of the school community, serve as student advisors, and collaboratively lead service learning and overnight trips among other activities.

The ideal candidate will possess:
a relevant advanced degree and at least 3-5 years of teaching experience,
a strong understanding of the developmental needs of early adolescents,
experience with curriculum design, and student-centered teaching and learning practices,
a demonstrated ability to work with a diversity of student backgrounds and learning styles,
experience with the development and implementation of DEI curricula and co-curricula,
and an eagerness to partner with a dynamic team of colleagues in the day-to-day activities of the school.
