The successful candidate for the Coordinator of Diverse Students Mental Health & Wellness will have a comprehensive understanding of the lived experiences of BIPOC and the impact of racial stress/trauma, identity development, multi-racial identity, and systemic racism to support the mental health and overall well-being of students of color. The successful candidate will provide empirically based clinical services and outreach services to BIPOC and other underrepresented student populations through individual, group, couple, and psychoeducational workshops as well as consultation with faculty, staff, and the campus community. This position will collaborate with Student Counseling Services staff to provide crisis counseling/interventions and participate in an after-hours on-call rotation during the academic year. Responsibilities may include providing supervision to student interns as designated by SCS Coordinator of Clinical Services.
The Division of Access, Diversity and Inclusion at Mississippi State University is comprised of 5 departments focused on ensuring that equity and inclusion is central in all of the decision-making processes. The Division provides institutional leadership on matters related to diversity, equity and access partnering across academic and non-academic units to foster an inclusive environment within the University.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provision of individual, group, and couple counseling from a multi-cultural perspective. 2. Design and implement multiculturally-oriented and inclusive outreach programs, therapeutic groups, and skills building workshops with a focus on holistic well-being for BPIOC and other underrepresented student populations. 3. Provision of rotating after-hours Counselor-on-Duty. 4. Crisis intervention with referral to campus and community resources as needed. 5. Provision of consultation and training to faculty, administrators, residence staff, and other student service personnel regarding diversity issues as they relate to mental health. 6. Provide supervision to pre-licensed mental health professionals as applicable. 7. Participate in staff meetings and relevant campus committees. 8. Complete administrative responsibilities in a timely manner, and maintain clinical case files in accordance with legal, ethical, and professional standards. 9. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Focus Education Master's degree Counseling, Social Work, or related field
1. Doctoral degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or related discipline. 2. Clinical experience in higher education. 3. Greater than two years of experience working with diverse populations. 4. Specialized skills working with marginalized groups.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Ability to develop and evaluate innovative approaches to address systematic issues that impact mental health outcomes for marginalized groups. * Able to work effectively and independently with students, faculty, staff, and administration. * Able to work effectively and independently in a setting off-site from the SCS main office. * Excellent oral and written communication skills and a high level of professionalism and professional ethics.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
* No unusual physical requirements. Requires limited lifting of files and records and nearly all work is performed in a comfortable indoor facility. * Frequent- External imposed deadlines; set and revised beyond one's control; interruptions influence priorities; difficult to anticipate nature or volume of work with certainty beyond a few days; meeting of deadlines and coordination of unrelated activities are key to position; involves conflict-resolution or similar interactions involving emotional issues or stress on a regular basis. * Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands.
