This Senior Immigration Specialist - Office of General Counsel will be responsible for:
Overseeing the hospital's J-1 Exchange Visitor program and manages all aspects of the immigration process for J-1 Research and Short-Term Scholars. Facilitating the visa application process for prospective exchange visitors requiring sponsorship to work in the US.
Acting as Alternate Responsible Officer, advising and assisting faculty and staff regarding data collection and documentation. Identifying new ways to streamline processes and reduce legal costs associated with the immigration function.
Acting as intermediary and liaison between outside counsel and faculty and departments. Providing consultation to staff on questions relating to immigration.
Maintaining SEVIS and internal ISSM database to ensure the tracking of immigration status.
Advising and updating departments of changes in J-1 Exchange Visitor status.
Assist in maintaining immigration website that provides forms, information, and processes that facilitate the visa program
Assist in maintaining an immigration administrative manual and provides immigration training and education to managers and staff throughout the hospital.
Acting as a Training Program Liaison to prepare and submit J-1 Physician requests to ECFMG. Works with clinical training programs throughout hospital to collect and prepare ECFMG required documentation.
To qualify, you must have:
A Bachelor's degree in business, healthcare or a closely related field, and 5+ years of experience as an immigration specialist, paralegal or manager
Must possess extensive knowledge of US immigration law, J-1 Exchange Visitors, specifically the Research Scholar, Short-Term Scholar, and Alien Physician categories, J-1 waivers, USCIS processes, and permanent residency
Experience with academic medical center, physicians, nurses, scientists, technical positions preferred
Excellent computer skills required. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and SEVIS. Experience with ECFMG's EVNet database and Ellucian's - International Student and Scholar Management (ISSM) preferred.
