Villa Academy is seeking a Lower School Learning Support Specialist. Learning Support is designed to assist students who experience difficulty with some aspect of learning, thus affecting their academic growth. This position reports to the Lower School Director and is a full-time faculty appointment.
The Learning Support Specialist plays a vital role in teaching students of concern or with documented learning differences. This person teaches strategies and specific skills to help students achieve academic success. Primary responsibilities of the Learning Support Specialist include:
Provide a combination of small group intervention-based instruction and classroom push-in support for kindergarten through fifth grade students;
Closely collaborate with the lower school learning support assistant and coordinate scheduling to support maximum student support across multiple grade levels;
Communicate regularly with teachers and parents regarding student progress;
Write and regularly update learning support plans for students with identified learning needs;
Facilitate classroom accommodations for qualified students;
Oversee standardized testing accommodations for Lower School students;
Interpret student neuropsych or specific learning assessments and facilitate appropriate learning support;
Contribute to classroom progress reports/report cards of identified students;
Continually provide and seek out resources to assist students;
Collaborate with the Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Director in coordinating, evaluating and implementing Villa’s Lower School academic assessments and assist teachers in utilizing the data to support student learning;
Meet regularly with Lower School Director, School Counselor and Middle School Learning Support Specialist;
Participate in grade level and division meetings and perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
A degree in Special Education or related field with emphasis on teaching/learning; Master’s degree preferred;
Successful school-based experience working with students experiencing a broad range of learning needs as well as a strong background in interventions for learning disabilities;
