Choate Rosemary Hall seeks an Associate Dean of College Counseling and Testing Coordinator (“Associate Dean”) to begin late summer 2021. The Choate College Counseling Office is currently comprised of a Dean, a Senior Associate Dean, five Associate Deans, and two Administrative Assistants. This is a newly created full-time position; the responsibilities set forth below were previously covered by two part-time professionals.
The Associate Dean is a 46-week associate faculty position reporting to the Dean of College Counseling.
Primary job responsibilities include guiding students through the college search and application process. The Associate Dean will have a caseload of approximately 18-20 seniors/post-graduate students in the fall and will take on a full caseload of juniors (also approximately 18-20) in the winter. Exceptional writing and public speaking skills are required. Experience working with recruited athletes and/or international students is desired. Candidates should be able to multi-task and have a sense of humor.
The Associate Dean is also responsible for coordinating, monitoring, and administering standardized testing and college entrance exams - including the PSAT, SAT, Practice ACT, ACT, and AP - to Choate Rosemary Hall students and students from neighboring schools who register to take exams at Choate. In addition, the Associate Dean manages test day administrations and responds to all related test administration queries. The Associate Dean serves as a resource to students and parents by communicating relevant testing information and resolving test related issues in a timely and thorough manner. The Associate Dean keeps up to date about standardized test initiatives, policy changes, and potential curriculum implications and responds to the testing agencies (College Board and ACT) when issues of concern arise. The Associate Dean assists in the completion of appropriate registration materials for students with disabilities, students who are attending international term abroad programs, students who register for Cambridge Assessment at off-campus testing centers, and those students who register for the TOEFL at off-campus testing centers or who register for the Duolingo English Language Test.
All members of the College Counseling Office work in collaboration with other members of the Choate community including form deans, advisers, teaching faculty, coaches, alumni, and parents. In addition to counseling responsibilities, each counselor has specific job functions and tasks unique to his or her career expertise. There is strong support for professional development; attendance at professional conferences is encouraged as is participation in college counselor tours and independent visits to college campuses.
