Cape Cod Academy is seeking a College Counselor. Reporting to the Associate Head of School, the College Counselor will have overall responsibility for leading the college guidance program. S/he will be involved in the school community at large and will assume responsibility for other projects as assigned by the Head of School or Associate Head.
Duties and Responsibilities
Assist juniors and seniors in all aspects of the college search process. Meet with students individually and in groups to educate and empower them on how to navigate the college process, admissions trends, and individual college options. This includes providing strategies, advice, support, and guidance to students and their families throughout the entire application process.
Help arrange transcripts and write recommendations for students applying to college.
Identify resources for scholarships and financial aid for colleges and universities.
Act as a liaison for international students and their agents through all aspects of the college admission and enrollment process.
Manage the standardized testing, which includes scheduling test dates, registering students, arranging for staffing on test days and special prep classes, administering the tests, and providing pre- and post-testing counseling.
Conduct events and educational outreach for both the student and parent communities, working closely with parents during the entire search process.
Create and submit materials to colleges in support of college applicants.
Facilitate visits between students and college representatives at the school and arrange and direct visits to college fairs.
Oversee and update information on the student database systems.
Cultivate mutually beneficial working relationships with college admissions professionals and local area college counseling colleagues.
Track trends in the admissions and college counseling fields.
Qualification / Requirements
A bachelor’s degree in counseling is required; a master’s degree preferred. Candidates should have a minimum of 4 or 5 years of prior experience in college counseling or college admissions and a successful track record working with students from first contact to college admission. Proven experience with domestic and international students is needed.
