Job Summary: Responsible for scientific oversight and direction of the Genetics Laboratory at Saint Francis Hospital.
Education: Completion of a M.D. or Ph.D. in the appropriate biological science, including biochemistry, or clinical laboratory science from an accredited institution in order to obtain ABMGG board certification.
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: Board certified in Molecular Genetics & Genomics or Clinical Molecular Genetics and board certified (or board eligible) in Clinical Cytogenetics by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG). Meets the qualification requirements of CLIA '88 for technical supervisor for a Cytogenetics and a High Complexity Testing Laboratory.
The Center for Genetics at Saint Francis is seeking a clinical scientist to serve as Director of the Clinical Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics sections. Qualified candidates must possess a Ph.D. and be certified in clinical cytogenetics and molecular genetics by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG). Specifically, the candidate should have experience in constitutional and cancer cytogenetics, microarray, molecular oncology, molecular infectious disease and molecular diagnosis of heritable diseases. This position is a unique opportunity to direct a genetics laboratory that has been in operation for over 45 years in Tulsa.
The Center for Genetics at Saint Francis has a highly motivated and experienced laboratory staff. The Cytogenetic Laboratory offers diagnostic services for chromosome analysis (blood, bone marrow, and tissues), fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) analysis and microarray analysis. The Molecular Genetic Laboratory offers diagnostic and predictive testing for a variety of genetic disorders, molecular oncology markers and molecular infectious disease testing for viruses. Platforms and methods utilized are Sanger sequencing, Next Generation Sequencing (NextSeq 550, MiniSeq, and PGM), fragment analysis by capillary electrophoresis, array hybridization, Real-Time PCR and other molecular methods.
The Clinical Scientific Director interacts with a genetic counselor and with physicians in the neonatology, pediatrics, obstetrics, pathology and oncology groups within the Saint Francis Health System and throughout eastern Oklahoma. Duties will include providing technical oversight of the operation of the laboratory, reviewing and reporting all genetic cases, assisting in staff development, new test development (emphasis on Next Generation Sequencing panels for heritable diseases and Oncology markers) and quality assurance programs. A thorough understanding of regulatory requirements in a clinical genetics diagnostic laboratory setting and prior laboratory director experience is preferred. Excellent writing and communication skills are required.
Work Experience: 3 years of training or experience in genetics, in both Clinical Cytogenetics board specialty and Clinical Molecular board specialty. Prior experience as a Lab Director preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated skills in interpersonal relations, delegation and planning. Effective communication skills and leadership qualities. Experience with word processing, spreadsheet and database computer application. Ability to intergrate the analysis of data to discover facts or develop knowledge, concepts or interpretations. Ability to organize and prioritize work in an effective and efficient manner.
