Located in Wilmington, NC, Cape Fear Academy is southeastern North Carolina’s premier PK3-12 independent school. Teachers at Cape Fear Academy deliver high quality instruction that emphasizes critical thinking, written and oral communication, and collaboration in a technology-rich environment. CFA’s academic curriculum, recorded in an online mapping system, establishes clear, coordinated goals for each course and grade level while still allowing teachers the freedom to be creative and innovative in their instructional choices. Academic departments in grades 6-12 foster collaborative decisions about curriculum, materials, and departmental goals. Upper School Science, Engineering, Computing, Innovation and Design Teacher
Teach 5 sections, including all levels of biology, science electives, physics,engineering, robotics, app development and other coding and computer science classes.
Teach a class on advanced science/interdisciplinary elective.
Serve as a faculty advisor to 10-12 students, guiding students in academic, extracurricular, social, and personal development.
Coach the Robotics Team
Act as primary liaison to parents or guardians.
Provide a range of instructional and assessment strategies with technology to meet the needs of all students.
Collaborate with staff members to create engaging lessons and a positive school culture.
Track student data and uphold high behavioral and academic expectations.
Provide tutoring to individual and small student groups as required.
Continuously communicate and build relationships with students and families.
Create an inviting, engaging and student directed classroom culture.
Sponsor a student club and/or coach an athletic team.
Performs other projects and duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
The teacher should be passionate, with experience and knowledge in all levels of Upper School Biology, Physics and Engineering. Must be able to teach robotics, app development and other coding and computer science classes/ interdisciplinary elective.
Enthusiasm for embracing the independent school model of mentoring, advising, and supporting students outside of the classroom.
Possess an interest in and ability to contribute to extracurricular activities.
Proficient using technology including online texts, iPads, and computer interface measurements.
Collaborative and engaged member of the faculty who is committed to students and to teacher growth. Demonstrated commitment to a community that values equity, diversity, and inclusion.
