JOB SUMMARY

The University of Connecticut Honors Program seeks a Coordinator for Peer Leadership Programs (Student Services Program Coordinator) to provide support in the planning, development, and implementation of co-curricular programming, as well as advisement and support regarding leadership and involvement opportunities for students in the residential and academic communities of the Honors Program. This position will be primarily responsible for coordinating UConn Honors’ peer mentorship and peer leader development initiatives in addition to supporting programming and Honors student organization initiatives.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Honors for Residential and Community Life, the Program Coordinator will:

  • With Honors advising staff, serve as a coordinator and contact for Honors peer mentor development through supervision of the Honors Guides for Peer Success (Honors GPS) student advising team;
  • Assist the Assistant Director with planning and execution of the Honors First-Year Seminar;
  • Assist in the training of Peer Educators through the Honors Peer Mentoring and Leadership course and the Facilitator Practicum course;
  • Serve as primary advisor to Peer Allies Through Honors (PATH), an Honors student organization dedicated to mentorship of first year students by upper-division current Honors students;
  • Serve as a liaison to the other offices on campus as requested by the Assistant Director, such as Residential Life, the Center for Career Development, the Dean of Students, and First-Year Programs/Learning Communities;
  • Assist in the administration and coordination of Honors housing in the First-Year Honors Community and upper-division Honors Communities, including the Honors 2 Opportunities sophomore learning community;
  • Promote civic engagement throughout the Honors Community via participation in activities and events;
  • Refer students to other campus offices and agencies, as appropriate;
  • Coordinate and implement programs and events for Honors students and collaborate with campus offices on joint programming efforts;
  • Facilitate leadership development programming activities for Honors students;
  • Compile data and generate reports to assess program efficacy;
  • Advise and attend meetings of the executive boards and general assemblies of Honors student organizations such as Honors Council, Peer Allies Through Honors, Honors Initiative for Prospective Students, and Honors Across State Borders as needed;
  • Serve as a representative of the Honors Program at various student-run programs and events;
  • Act as an official representative of the University at meetings and various outreach activities;
  • Provide day visits, tours, and student contacts for prospective students and answer student and parent inquires as appropriate;
  • Assist the Honors Initiative for Prospective Students in coordinating Meet ‘n’ Greets with current Honors faculty, staff, and students for prospective students and their families;
  • Assist with Honors Orientation for incoming first-year students;
  • Advise Honors student delegations on trips; host and participate in programming and events on evenings and weekends as needed;
  • Perform additional related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s degree in appropriate field.
  2. Four to five years of experience in undergraduate student affairs programming or related experience.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of undergraduate honors programs, student programming, and residential life issues.
  4. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  5. Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple short- and long-term projects.
  6. Proven ability to plan, coordinate, and implement programs, services, and administrative functions.
  7. Ability to work independently and to solve problems and approach challenges in a flexible or creative way.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Master’s degree.
  2. Experience in an honors program or college as a student or staff member.
  3. Experience working with residential life issues.
  4. Work experience at a large university.
  5. Experience mentoring undergraduate student leaders.
  6. Experience working with high-achieving students.
  7. Experience with supervision.
