Student Advisor

Advises students on academic programs, policies and procedures and provides career counseling, with a particular focus on the Applied Statistics for Social Science Research (A3SR) MS program. Assists in outreach and the review of applicants for admissions to the A3SR master's program. Cultivates and maintains relationships with internship sites and prospective employers, maintains the internship database, and supports the education of students regarding future career opportunities both in the marketplace and in academia. Develops and implements academic and career-focused programming for students in all ASH programs, including new student orientations, career panels, and alumni networking events. Helps advertise and increase web presence for the A3SR program and the department more broadly. Interprets University and School policies and recommends exceptions to policy when appropriate. Serves as an integral member of a three-person advising team for the department, participating in recruitment activities and analyzing retention studies and activities that promote student success. All members of the advising team report to the Department Administrator.

Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree

Preferred Education:
Marketing and communications training is a plus. Priority will be given to those with some training in Applied Statistics, Data Science, or Quantitative Social Science.

Required Experience:
2+ years experience in advising and developing, marketing and administering programs.

Preferred Experience:
Priority will be given to those with an understanding of the growing field of Applied Statistics and Data Science in the Social Sciences. Marketing and communications experience a plus.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate with individuals, especially students and faculty. Ability to market programs to target groups, recruit, and retain students. Knowledge of standard office software.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge on advertising via social media. Ability to create and disseminate communications for students such as weekly email newsletters.Ability to create recruitment materials.
