The Academic Advisor I will provide accurate advisement, course selection, and program planning for declared School of Education, Health and Human Behavior (SEHHB) majors. The selected candidate will advise students by appointment, drop-in, phone-in, e-mail, Zoom/Skype; assist students with registration processes; assist students with information on how to improve their performance; and advise students with academic planning. The Advisor will present information about the SEHHB programs at recruitment functions such as PREVIEW, Fall Visit Day, the School’s Open Houses, and community college career days. Additionally, the Academic Advisor will provide informational transcript reviews for prospective SEHHB students; assist students in the interpretation of university policies; work closely with program directors to ensure the smooth matriculation of students into and through programs; and assist the Director, various program directors, and the Associate Dean in developing variety of annual reports. Additionally, the Academic Advisor, with the guidance of the Director and Licensure Officer, will assist program directors with programmatic changes to ensure alignment with university general education requirements and Illinois licensure requirements if applicable.
The professional responsibilities of this position may necessitate evening hours and occasional weekend hours. Further duties and responsibilities may be assigned based on the School’s mission and goals.
Individuals with prior advising experience may be considered eligible for hire at the Academic Advisor II level.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:
-Master’s degree in student personnel, higher education, education, or a closely related field. -Knowledge of college student development, academic advising theory and the college environment. -Knowledge of student support services available to college students. -Ability to demonstrate good communication skills and personal rapport with diverse populations. -Ability to professionally communicate via electronic channels. -Ability to use computerized student information systems and personal computing software.
-One or more years of experience as an academic advisor. -Experience advising in collegiate-level programs and assisting students with adjusting to graduate-level academic expectations. -Candidates who have graduate assistant experience in an area of student affairs will be considered.
