Incumbent will administer psychometric tests assessing memory, language, perceptual, and problem-solving abilities to English and Spanish speaking elderly individuals with and without dementia who are participating in the Shiley-Marcos Alzheimer's Disease Research Center's (ADRC) longitudinal and clinical research studies. Will ensure tests are accurately scored and summary data is recorded and submitted in an accurate and timely manner. Memory screening and more complete neuropsychological test batteries will be carried out at the ADRC in La Jolla and at a partner site, in the South Bay. Additional responsibilities will include active participation in a variety of associated research-related tasks and in community outreach activities, especially with staff in the ADRC's Hispanic component.
Must be a fully balanced English-Spanish bilingual with both oral and written language proficiency. Demonstrated ability to function at a professional level in oral and written fluency in both languages.
Completion of a Bachelor Degree with a major in Psychology or a closely related field, including training in administering and scoring individual and group psychological tests or an equivalent combination of education and experience, including knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to this position.
Proficiency in administering and scoring neuropsychological tests given to elderly Spanish and/or English speaking individuals with and without dementia (i.e.Wechsler Adult Intellilgence Scale, Wechsler Memory Scale, Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, Mattis Dementia Rating Scale, Boston Naming Test, California Verbal Learning Test, CERAD Word List Memory Test, Clock Drawing Test, Modified Wisconsin Card Sorting Test, Letter and Category Fluency Tests, American National Adult Reading Test, Folstein Mini-Mental Status Exam and Blessed Information-Memory Test).
Ability to interact sensitively and professionally in English and/or Spanish with demented and non-demented elderly individuals (some with very low levels of education).
Excellent interpersonal skills including tact, diplomacy and flexibility, with the ability to work independently or within a team framework. Adherence to principles of community with staff, professionals, participants, and others. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Proven ability to take ownership of work performance, follow through on assignments, and anticipate, identify, and analyze problems and resolve or recommend course of action for resolution as appropriate.
Solid computer skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email system, and a variety of web-based programs. Demonstrated ability to create and maintain databases, perform standard computer tasks, and learn new programs/applications with minimal direction.
Experience with community outreach and education.
Demonstrated activities in community engagement with the Latino Community.
Understanding of recruitment and eligibility screening for clinical research .
Must have access to reliable transportation to travel to off-site locations. If using own vehicle must have a valid Driver's License, vehicle insurance and acceptable driving record.
