(NP/PA) Surgical Oncology APP Supervisor

DESCRIPTIONUnder the supervision of the Chief of Surgical Oncology, the APP Supervisor provides independent and collaborative management of complex Surgical Oncology patients from their pre-operative experience to post-operative and beyond. Must possess exceptional interpersonal skills to interface with patients, family members and staff. Responsible for education and teaching that is vital to the patient's comprehension of disease process. Excellent communication and collaborative skills are needed to navigate within a multidisciplinary team to assure continuity of care for patients. Strong advocate and leader for the division of Surgical Oncology who will continually develop pathways for improvement in patient care and optimize workflows based on feedback. Triage and assign incoming referrals for GI Surg Onc division. Must possess outstanding customer service skills when interfacing with newly diagnosed cancer patients and be able to formulate and communicate an action plan as to what the patient will need. Interviews patients regarding presenting problem to determine and expedite disposition so they may enter our system whether it be referral to radiation oncology, medical oncology or gastrointestinal specialists or surgical oncology. Clinic support to the Chief involves a thorough review of medical records to ensure all testing is available to make clinical decisions at time of patient appointment. APP is responsible for thorough history taking and planning and execution of a personalized care plan for patient based on individual needs, including supportive or ancillary care referrals. Ability to be clear when writing chart notes in conjunction with the MD and resident. APP participates in clinical exams, relevant education of patients, independent clinics for surveillance and post-op visits and ordering of appropriate tests for complete patient care. Helps instruct and collaborate with residents to coordinate the care of our patients. Independently manages complex patient care including symptom management post-surgery. Direct oversight of APPs, RNs and LVNs on the team. Responsible for staffing, coverage and timekeeping of staff. Fills in as needed to cover staff and their clinics. Recruits, orients, trains and supervises staff and provides counseling, staff development, performance evaluations and disciplinary actions for professional and auxiliary staff. Timekeeper for staff. Depending on the credentials of the selected candidate, this position will be hired as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Supervisor.
