Middle and Upper School Art

Fredericksburg Academy, the leading co-ed, PK-12, independent school in Fredericksburg, Virginia is seeking a full-time Middle School and Upper School Studio Art teacher beginning in August 2021. Candidates should have a passion for supporting students to reach their full potential as students and citizens, a demonstrated desire for professional growth and a willingness to participate fully in the life of the school. Position responsibilities include preparation and teaching of the following courses:  Middle School art (6^th, 7^th, and 8^th grade art electives) and two Upper School Art courses (possibly AP Studio Art- Drawing). Fredericksburg Academy is a bring-your-own-device school—a high level of technological proficiency and demonstrated use of technology within the learning environment is preferred. Additional responsibilities include serving as an advisor to approximately 8-10 students and supporting a co-curricular activity (coaching or advising a student leadership group).

Expectations

• Ability to teach a range of courses within subject area (standard art courses and guiding those who choose to take the AP courses)
• Work closely with students to develop self-expression through painting, drawing, two and three-dimensional art
• Passion for working with middle and upper school students and an understanding of their unique development
• Encourage and actively pursue opportunities for student participation in local, regional, and national art contests as well as support community art projects
• Enthusiasm for teaching and professional growth
• Serve as a member of the Fine Arts department; attend meetings and support the work of the department
• Willingness to collaborate within and across departments
• Sense of humor and flexibility
• Support the school and its mission
• Strong, timely, and effective communication (both written and oral)
• Experience with publications and digital drawing would be welcomed but not required.
