 Admissions Counselor 495915 Position Type: Staff Position Number: 20112089 Department: Enrollment Services Job Summary/Basic Function: Lamar University is currently hiring an on-campus admission counselor. The admissions counselor reports directly to the Assistant Director of Admissions and Graduate Recruitment. Job Summary: Lamar University admissions counselors are responsible for recruiting prospective students by promoting Lamar University programs to graduate students, pre-admission advisement and matriculation to ensure enrollment goals are met. The admissions counselor should be well versed in networking, graduate degree programs, and the graduate student experience. Job Responsibilities: Minimum Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Contacts with coworkers from other organizational units of the University Tact and judgment are requirements in obtaining or giving information of a confidential nature Comprehensive, practical knowledge of a technical field with use of analytical judgment and decision-making abilities appropriate to the work environment of the organization Demonstrated time-management skills, ability to multitask, and meet deadlines Must pay attention to details Ability to work and communicate effectively and respectfully with diverse populations Strong interpersonal skills, creative problem-solving skills, and demonstrated skills in oral and written communication are essential Presentation and Public Speaking skills are essential Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Contacts with coworkers from other organizational units of the University. Bilingual Preferred Tact and judgement are requirements in obtaining or giving information of a confidential nature. Ability to stand for extended periods of time and lift objects that weigh 25 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations Qualifications: Bachelors degree required Valid drivers license required Experience recruiting a diverse and varied student population including low socioeconomic (SES), first generation, and other groups traditionally underrepresented in higher education preferred. Sales experience and familiarity with customer relationship management systems, relationship selling, and other sales techniques preferred. Preference given to candidates having direct experience at Lamar University as a successful and active student. Currently in or completion of masters degree preferred. Travel: Admissions Counselors are expected to travel extensively within Lamar Universitys recruitment zones. Evening and weekend hours will be required.
