The Assistant Director is responsible to assist the Director of Disability Services with all DSO processes and procedures. The Assistant Director is also responsible for the development, management and assessment of the Garden State Pathways Program (GSP) which supports the integration of young adults with intellectual disabilities interested in academic, vocational and social enrichment.
Essential Functions: -Manage and supervise the daily operations of the GSP Program for staff, students and mentors. -Oversee the GSP application process including the management of student/family interviews. -Assist with hiring, training, scheduling and evaluation of GSP Program and adjunct faculty and mentors. -Manage the budget for the program. -Develop connections and placements with external employers for the purpose of externships and job placements. -Develop GSP program-related materials reflecting program operations and related program-specific activities; track all GSP vocational hours required for graduation. -Conduct and facilitate GSP program meetings, advisory meetings, and community partnerships meetings. -Develop and implement a communication plan with students and families to address challenges and needed interventions. -Manage the GSP webpage and recruitment materials. -Maintain student records, student evaluations, and course content files in compliance with FERPA. -Assist the Director of Disability Services with recruiting and evaluating eligibility for students who request accommodations from the DSO; authorize appropriate reasonable services in compliance with Section 504 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA/504). -Develop and conduct Disability Awareness training workshops for faculty and staff. -Participate in college-wide academic advisement activities both on and off campus. -In coordination with the DSO director, design and implement DSO, GSP and Deaf/Hard of Hearing student recruitment activities (i.e. orientations, open houses, campus tours, parent meetings, presentations to community professionals). -Coordinates DSO-D/HH support services schedules for accommodations (i.e. note-taking, interpreting). -Assist with GSP code of conduct violations with Associate Dean of Students. -Perform other duties as assigned.
Secondary Functions: -All other duties as required.
Physical requirements: -This position is primarily office based. Occasional local travel will be necessary. The ability to communicate through hearing, speech and writing is required. Minimal lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling is required. Routine use of the computer is mandatory.
- Master’s Degree preferred; Bachelor’s Degree in the areas of special education, social work, clinical psychology or relate field required. - Minimum of two years supervisory experience preferred. -Prior experience working with people with intellectual/developmental disabilities. -Familiarity with services and support of individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities including autism spectrum disorder. -Experience in educational/vocational curriculum and program development preferred. -Knowledge of and experience interpreting and applying Federal Regulation 504 and the Americans with Disabilities Act required. -Knowledge of and ability to interpret results of various assessments and diagnostic tools used to diagnose different types of disabilities. -Demonstrated ability to effectively interface with a wide variety of constituents including students, faculty, staff, family members and community members. -Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and work in a busy and collaborative team environment. -Excellent written skills and presentation skills. -Computer skills-MS Office Suite.
