Assistant Director, MFD Student Affairs

The Mork Family Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science (MFD) at the USC Viterbi School of Engineering is seeking an Academic Advisor to join its Student Affairs team. The Student Services Advisor I will work collaboratively with the other advisors to help foster intellectual and personal development for all Mork Family Department students.  The advising team empowers students to make informed decisions that contribute to academic success.

MFD offers undergraduate, masters and PhD degrees in three programs: Materials Science, Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Engineering. The Student Services Advisor I will support student across our programs, as assigned by the director of student affairs.

This position provides a broad range of student-related functions, such as:

• Provide holistic advising and administrative support to an assigned group of students on an individual or group basis.  May meet with parents to provide information and facilitate problem resolution.
• Advise on matters of curriculum, course and degree requirements, graduation counseling and registration by utilizing the USC Advisement Database, SIS and other university information systems.
• Develop a comprehensive understanding of the robust University support services available to USC students and make student referrals as appropriate.
• Help develop and execute a communication strategy to promote student programs and resources.  Distribute information via email, website, and a digital newsletter.  Utilize Experience USC, WordPress, Canva, Qualtrics, and video capture tools. 
• Interface with the MFD Research Administration team, the Viterbi Student Affairs team and other campus partners to exchange and update information.
• Assist with the planning and execution of department recruiting and admissions events and programing.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree

Experience: 1 year

Minimum Field of Expertise: Student program or services experience
 

Preferred Qualifications:

Education: Master’s Degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, Counseling or Related Field

Experience: 2 years with Academic advising and STEM background
