The Video & New Media Integrationist will lead in the development of a cutting-edge 6th-12th grade video/new media program aligned with the school’s mission, commitment to DEIJ, and Portrait of a Graduate. The position will design and teach a range of courses focused on developing creative voices, helping students grow as storytellers, advocates, and artists, and equipping students with the technical skills needed to generate meaningful work in narrative, documentary, and alternative media forms. Leveraging both in-house and community partnerships, the Video & New Media Coordinator will help to grow a program of industry internships, mentorships, and transdisciplinary projects, and to establish Buckley as a leader in exhibiting and celebrating student work in video and new media arts. Essential Job Functions: - Lead in the development, implementation, and evaluation of a dynamic 6th-12th grade multi-media studies program that is aligned with the school’s mission, Portrait of a Graduate, DEI initiatives and Commitments.
- Partner with Director of Innovative Teaching & Learning, K-12 Tech Integrationist, and Department Chairs to offer multi-media professional development to faculty to support their development of transdisciplinary courses, assignment and assessments.
- Maintain awareness of best practices, emerging technologies, and new potentials in video & media instruction through continuous learning. Attend professional development as necessary to deepen skills and extend pedagogical knowledge.
- Build and maintain professional contacts in the film, video and media industries. In collaboration with the Director of Innovative Teaching & Learning and Drama/Dance Department Chair, establish and supervise a system for community-based internships, mentorships, and independent studies.
- Envision, organize, and evaluate, in partnership with the admissions and marketing teams, means for students to share their work with peers, current and prospective families, and alumni, which might include assemblies, participation in open houses, display on social media.
- Evaluate the creation and implementation of a yearly festival/exhibition of student work that establishes Buckley as a regional leader in celebrating video and new media arts.
Duties and Responsibilities - Teach a range of Middle and Upper School classes, which might include offerings such as beginner, intermediate, and advanced level video production, screenwriting, and film history. Engage in cyclical review of curriculum to improve and expand the existing program.
- In partnership with Drama/Dance Department Chair, manage and maintain program facilities and equipment, including overseeing budget, equipment ordering, and organization of the video studio.
- Support students in festival entry and creating portfolios for college and arts intensive program applications
- Participate in faculty and departmental meetings.
- Various duties, including serving as a Middle or Upper School advisor, rotational lunch supervision, chaperoning outdoor education and fields trips, and other duties, as assigned.
- Participate in the life of the school by attending assemblies, games, concerts, and other school events.
