Bishop Ireton High School is seeking a full-time Assistant Principal-Dean of Faculty at our campus in Alexandria, Virginia. This is a 12-month, full-time administrative position that reports directly to the Principal and is someone who can effectively manage and coordinate faculty efforts to steward the Catholic educational mission of our School. The official start date is July 1, 2021.
The ideal candidate is a strong academic leader with excellent communication and organizational skills; training and experience in curriculum development and course scheduling; the ability to develop and support faculty in best classroom instructional strategies; and an enthusiasm for mentoring and collaborating with faculty. This individual acts as a liaison with the Principal to the school community as an instructional leader, available for special school-wide projects and school events as needed.
Curriculum, Instruction and Professional Development
Ensures that all faculty understand and can articulate the mission of Bishop Ireton High School
Works with the Principal and assists Faculty through the review and implementation of curriculum, instructional strategies and assessments
Works with the Principal to prepare and implement a master course schedule and classroom assignments, and to maintain class information and grading within the portal system (Blackbaud)
Facilitates the quarterly report card process and the bi-annual exam schedule, assisting faculty and working with the counseling and special services departments on student academic standing and student progress throughout the school year
Works with the Principal to prepare the orientation/teacher week schedule, organize necessary materials, and conduct/schedule professional development for new and returning faculty in August
Works with the Principal on the organization and implementation of Professional Learning Communities
Organizes professional development and in-servicing for faculty in accordance with school mission, school improvement plans and faculty development needs
Coordinates and facilitates the faculty mentoring program (working in collaboration with the Dean of Academics on the mentorship of new teachers to the school)
Assists the Principal in observations and performance evaluations for all instructional staff throughout the school year; providing support to faculty in curriculum and educational goals
Works in collaboration with the Principal to facilitate Academic Council with faculty department chairs
Works in coordination with the Principal to participate in conflict resolution for teacher/parent meetings
Works in collaboration with Counseling to assist students and families regarding course selection issues/concerns
Assists with the hiring process of prospective faculty members
Collaborates with the Instructional Admin Team and Head of School to determine school calendar
Works with the Counseling Department to establish the formal parent/teacher conference process and schedule
Assists the Assistant Principal of Student Life with the annual academic and service banquets

A practicing Catholic in good standing
Master’s Degree required, Master’s in Education or School Administration preferred
Holds appropriate Virginia Administration and Supervision Certification or be eligible to obtain this certificate within three years of hire
Minimum of three or more years supervisory experience as a department head or high administrative position
Minimum five years teaching experience
Experience with reaccreditation and self-study through Cognia or similar accrediting organization preferred
Ability to skillfully utilize the school’s administrative, instructional and assessment technology platforms and programs, and be able to mentor others in use of these tools
Ability to lead and inspire a dedicated, professional faculty toward instructional excellence within a rigorous educational program
Ability to multi-task projects and duties in a collaborative, diverse working environment
Candidates also must be willing to undergo a background check and take required Virtus training.
